Myrmica
“Myrmica” is a universitary project from the videogame master of U-TAD. I entered in this project because close to their launch they needed people as tester to test the game. “Myrmica” will soon be released on Steam for free.
“Myrmica” is an investigation and puzzle adventure viewed from an isometric perspective. Explore a petrol station while chased by a time anomaly. Manipulate the routines of 5 unique characters to achieve your goal, create your situations trapped in a time loop, and uncover the truth of Complex B13B.
My Role in the Project
I only entered on “Myrmica” because they needed people on a specific role, that was playtesting. I only lasted a month, enough time until the rest of the team finished their task and could shift into playtest. This reduced time could not stop me from learning how professional QA works.
As a tester, I was in charge of:
Ensuring that the game is understandable, being the puzzle and navigation through the map comprehensible
Making sure there is no bug, and in the case, there is, note down how I reached to that bug and repeat it to be sure what steps make the bug appear.
Looking for spelling or grammar mistakes
An Excel file where we noted: the ID of the bug, priority of the bug, title of the bug, description of the bug, who discovered it, who is working on solving it, the status of the bug, in which build it was found, the date it was found, the date it was solved, files like videos or photos and finally some additional notes
This month was excellent for getting used to giving feedback and being on the other side of the videogame development, as a tester instead of a designer. This not only taught me how to do playtests and be a good tester but also, what things could I do as a designer to make easier the work of testers.
